He was preceded in death by his parents.
Frank was born in Parnell, Iowa, to Helen and Martin McDonald. After graduating from Parnell High School, he served in the Army, stationed in Greenland. He lived in Iowa City and worked at the University of Iowa. He married Pauline Gent at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Kinross on April 15, 1961. He worked in Amana; and in 1969, Frank and Pauline moved with their four children to Cedar Rapids, where he worked at Ilten's for 30 years. Since 1968, Frank was a member of the United Association Local 125 as a pipefitter refrigeration worker and then retiree. He was a faithful and active member of All Saints Catholic Church, where he enjoyed ushering for many years.
Frank was involved in the Cadets of St. George. Frank had fond memories of coaching girls basketball at All Saints, he looked forward to attending events his grandchildren were involved in, and walking five miles outside each morning--even in the winter. He liked to drop a line in the water every once in a while, and enjoyed fishing trips in the last few years. Frank and Pit are fishing in heaven right now and having a blast.
Frank will be remembered for his generosity with his time, his quick wit, and that ornery sparkle in his eye.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Frank's name to All Saints Catholic Church or Camp Courageous.
Our deepest sympathies on the loss of your dear loved one. May it comfort you to know that our Grand Creator promises to bring back to life those in his memory to perfect health on a paradise earth. John 5:28,29, Rev 21:3,4.
We just recently meet Frank at his Grandaughter’s graduation in Moorhead, MN. Frank was an amazing dad, Father-In Law and grandpa. May god bless you all during this difficult time.

We met Frank nearly 22 years ago at his daughter’s wedding, Jennifer. His daughter and his granddaughters are a wonderful tribute to the man he was.
Pauline and family – I am so very sorry to hear about Frank’s passing. My deepest sympathy.
McDonald and Welsh families~ My deepest sympathy on the loss of a wonderful person, father, and grandfather. He was a great example of our faith.
To the family of Frank McDonald – I had the pleasure of meeting Frank many years ago when he worked with Jack Driscoll (I had been married to one of the son’s). He would come over every spring and ‘recharge’ the central air unit for us and then after he retired he made sure that I had a name of someone that could continue doing that. Since we did not live very far from him, I would often see him in different stores and there was always that grin and a hello! My husband told me this morning that he had just spoken to Frank last Thursday as he walked past our house! We were very surprised to read of his passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and all of your families.
To Mrs. McDonald, Mary and family: I am thinking of you at your time of loss. I will always remember Mr. McDonald with a ready smile and an offer to help. I remember him coaching us at girls’ basketball practice; looking back, that would have taken a lot of patience on his part! And lots of Sundays greeting me as an usher at All Saints. May your many memories of this truly wonderful man bring you some peace at this difficult time. Amy Merfeld
Pauline and family-so sorry to hear of Frank’s passing. I remember taking him to the train before you were married. I think he was returning to a military base. He was one of the good guys, and it’s tough to lose a good Irishman! He was always fun to be around. My thoughts and prayers are with you and may Frank RIP..

I am so sorry to hear of Frank’s death. I can honestly say that he was one of the nicest men I have ever known. With our children also at All Saints and Regis we were at many of the same events. It was always so nice to be with Frank & Pauline. He will be missed by many people.
