Michael Chapman

Michael Chapman, 76, of Mechanicsville, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at St. Luke's Hospital following an extended illness. At Michael's request, no services will take place. Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon, is caring for Mike and his family. Survivors include his children, Dorrie (Jose) Gonzalez of Texas, and Tom Chapman of Maine; grandchildren, Drew Kloubec, and Mariah, Aaron, and Christopher Gonzalez, and Inara and Alex Chapman; great-grandson, Elijah; sister, Linda of Texas; and many friends including Jay and Judy Hartman, Frank Sheda, and Chuck and Bobbi Grassley. Michael Bruce Chapman was born February 12, 1945, to Edmund and Audra (DeMoss) Chapman. He grew up in the Oxford Junction, Iowa, area. Mike was extremely intelligent, and enjoyed learning and playing chess. He would study any topic that piqued his interest, but mostly he enjoyed studying the Bible'he read it many times, participated in many Bible study groups, and taught his children many Bible verses. Mike earned two Doctorate Degrees in Theology and Divinity, and served as minister for his own Pentecostal church, Emmanuel Tabernacle Church in Oxford Junction. He lived his life for God and shared that dedication with others. He was dedicated to serving God in the best way possible. Mike had calm presence and was a friend to everyone. He lived in Arizona for a number of years, and also worked in air traffic control for America West Airline. Mike's heart was always in Iowa, so he moved back over twelve years ago. His family and friends will always cherish the memories they have of Mike. He was preceded in death by his parents; and former spouse, Carolyn.
